Newsletter October 2019 – the Illuxcon one

John Harris, with something different!

We just wanted to wish all the people at Illuxcon (IX Arts) the very best with this year's show. I hope it all goes well and I'm so sorry we won't be there this year. I'm sure we'll be back next year but in the mean time here is John Harris who never stands still. He's produced two very beautiful paintings of an estuary near his home in Devon.

Levi Pinfold Originals for Sale

Also, I'm thrilled to be able to offer you some beautiful original paintings by Levi Pinfold. Levi won the Kate Greenaway Medal for his book, Black Dog, and his work for that book, remarkably, was produced using egg tempera. I now have one of those paintings for sale, and also some others produced for the highly successful "Illusionology" book. This is a rare chance because due to time pressure Levi then moved to working digitally, so there are no more originals lining up to be sold.
This fascinating film, made by my colleagues at Arena in London, tells you more about the man and his work.
Ian Miller's image of The Balrog

There's an exciting development on prints as well. Ian Miller was asked by an expert fine art silkscreen printer in North London if they could use one of his images to advertise their technique. The result is the most astounding print of Ian's drawing of The Balrog, and we've decided to have a limited edition of ten prints made. These prints are larger than the original drawing and you can see every pen stroke. Ian is amazed at the detail.

Here's the whole image, and a very close-up detail.

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell

Based on the book by Susanna Clarke, the TV production made in 2013 was a very successful adaptation. Jim Kay really enjoyed working on the concept work, and now we can offer one of two of those originals for sale. More on the production here.
Since then, Jim has been concentrating on the Harry Potter books. The fourth one, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was published on 8th October and has been well received. This is how the cover looks. And here's Jim talking about it.

In other news

There's a new "Game of Thrones" image to show you and you won't have seen it on a book cover. Jim Burns was working digitally by the time he produced the cover for the fifth book but he's now produced a version of it as an oil painting, for a private collector. Lucky collector.
